President,
Yorktown
Jewish Center
Posted February 29, 2008
Dear Fellow Congregants:
So I've been President for two whole days now. So far so
good. I am humbled, honored, excited and a little nervous about
the propect of being the President of the Yorktown Jewish Center.
I am very fortunate for two reasons:
First, Bob Mitgang and his board did a magnificent job and left us is a
very good position. Second, Marvin Meadow and the nominating committee
put together a great slate of officers and I look foward to working
with them to accomplish great things.
We have a very active congregation with many diverse programs.
Our physical building is updated and looks terrific. Our Hebrew
School is getting better every year with great communication. Our
Rabbi has settled in and is ready to help us get to the next
level. Our challenge now is to get the word out. When you
have a synagogue this great shouldn't we look to share our good
fortune?
Our focus this year will be to grow our membership. We are going
to get the word out to the community about the great things we have to
offer. Every member of the Yorktown Jewish Center is an
ambassedor to the community. Go ahead, talk about us to your
friends and neighbors. Tell them why you belong. Bring
them to Shabbat Services or one of our many events as your guest.
In fact, our Purim Carnival will be on Sunday, March 16 at 10am.
This is a great day to bring a visitor to the YJC, especially families
with young children. Oh, and if you see a new face in our
building, say hello. You will be amazed at what a kind word and a
nice smile can do to make someone feel welcome.
Shalom,
Dean Mandel
